Game 2 - Navy Sharks v Alec 1

Team Alec 1: Good pedigree side made up of players from Dubai, England, South Africa & Scotland). Following their convincing win over the Varsity Blues a step up in play was required to keep the Navy Sharks results intact. From the start Alec 1 put the Sharks under intense pressure which finally lead to a try which was converted after 3 minutes (0:7). Alec 1 then kicked the ball start into touch from the restart, which gave the ball to the Sharks on the halfway line – a good quick piece of play going through 4 sets of hands found Josh Drauniniu who again showed a clean pair of heels to the defenders, Rob Lloyd converted (7:7). The game then ebbed and flowed for the next 4 minutes with each trying out each others strong and well organised defence. The Sharks persistence paid off with Alec 1 knocking on – the Sharks pounced on the ball and swiftly moved the ball right to Josh Drauniniu who again was too quick to be stopped, Rob Lloyd again converted (14:7). There were no more scores before the halftime whistle. The second half began at a frantic pace and a wild pass from Silivenusi Buinimasi to Manao Satala was intercepted gifting Alec 1 a try in the corner which was not converted (14:12). Both sides tightened up and fierce battle was contested at the tackle area, following another big hit by Will Pilkington Josh Drauniniu picked up the ball in broken play and scored his second hat trick of the competition. Rob Lloyd also kept his 100% record with conversions (21:12). With Alec 1 pressing hard Will Pilkington was penalised for a late tackle following a kick through which gifted the ball to Alec 1 in the Sharks 22. A good move with 8 or so passages of play resulted in another try for Alec 1 which they again failed to convert (21:17). From the subsequent kick off the Sharks kept up the pressure on Alec 1 as they were now chasing the game, a well timed run from Dane Smallbone forced an interception which he ran in under the posts, Rob Lloyd again converted (28:17) as the final whistle went.
